Should You Select IPVanish?

IPVanish is a feature-rich VPN that boasts its ability to scramble your online identity or IP address (hence the name) to maintain your anonymity. It is ranked fifth on our list of the Best VPNs. The company claims that by distributing its 40,000 IP addresses among its subscribers, “no activity can be traced to individual users.”

It supports P2P torrenting and even provides advice on how to set up your VPN for file sharing. IPVanish operates a global network of over 2,000 servers. While this network isn’t as large as some competitors, professional reviewers praise IPVanish for its customizable connection settings and say it has good geographic diversity. For example, you can connect to your country’s “best available city” and the “best available server” to improve speed or anonymity.

IPVanish also claims to provide fast connections, which are essential for streaming, by utilizing the WireGuard encryption protocol. It provides users with unlimited, unmetered data, allows you to connect an unlimited number of devices, and provides live 24/7 chat support. Professional reviewers, on the other hand, believe the interface could be simpler to use.

IPVanish’s monthly fees are reasonable at $10.99. A quarterly subscription costs $29.99, and an annual subscription costs $89.99, with discounts for the first periods for both options.

The Use of IPVanish

Settings & Features

One feature I particularly liked was the ability to filter servers in various ways. In the Windows app, for example, in addition to the usual filtering by city or country, servers can be filtered by latency or load percentage (the latter being a measure of how much server capacity is currently being used). Both of these can have an impact on your speed, so knowing this was useful.

In macOS, you can also filter servers by latency, but in mobile apps, you can only filter by city and country. The VPN displays information such as protocol, server, and data uploaded and downloaded when you connect.

One criticism I have is that the iOS app lacks a kill switch and split tunneling. A kill switch adds extra security by preventing you from connecting to the internet if your VPN connection is lost. Split tunneling is advantageous for users who want to route only a portion of their internet traffic through the VPN. For streaming services, for example, you may want to bypass the VPN for a faster connection.

I also noticed that, unlike most VPNs, IPVanish’s desktop apps have very different interfaces on Windows and macOS. I didn’t see any reason for this, and using the VPN on both platforms will increase your learning curve.

Streaming and Social Media

I could watch a high-definition YouTube video without buffering or stuttering while using IPVanish. I also could connect to Facebook and scroll smoothly through my feed. I had no DNS leaks while using IPVanish, which means the VPN properly concealed my IP address, location, and internet activity from my internet service provider.

Speed

IPVanish offers excellent speed. The average upload speed is 191.70, the average download speed is 423.50, and the average torrenting speed is 202.25.
